Xanthelasma is the name for a build up of cholesterol deposits under the skin around the eyes. They appear as white or yellow lumps or patches that appear on or around the eyes.

Cause

Anyone can get Xanthelasma, but you’re more likely to get it if you:

  • Are female.

  • Are of Asian or Mediterranean descent.

  • Smoke.

  • Are overweight.

  • Have high levels of fat (e.g. cholesterol) in the blood.

  • Have high blood pressure.

  • Have diabetes.

  • Are between 30 and 50 years old.


As Xanthelasma can be a sign of underlying health conditions, its always best to get checked by a GP.
